Margaret Romans was born in Riga, Latvia (then Russian Empire), on 16 March 1912.
In 1941, she married Heinrich Romans, having a small wedding due to the war and Latvia’s occupation by the Soviet Union. Shortly after their wedding, the couple were forced to flee from Latvia. They lived in Germany for a few years before emigrating to Canada in 1947.
Romans was widowed in 2002, and lived independently in Westmount, Quebec until the age of 107, when she moved into a nursing home in Sainte-Geneviève, a municipality of Montréal.
On 8 April 2024, following the passing of Ms. Brunet, she became the oldest known validated living person in the Province of Quebec.
She sadly passed away on 25 October 2025, aged 113.
She was the oldest validated Latvian-born person.

Antons Mortukans was considered the oldest man in Latvia and the Baltic countries since June 29, 2025, but he died in 2024, so he was no longer in that position, unfortunately.
He was the oldest living man in Latvia since September 11, 2022, holding the position for at least 1 year, 270 days, the longest time since Jāzeps Strods, who held it between March 31, 2017 - February 25, 2022 (4 years, 331 days). He died at at least 105 years, 103+ days old, the oldest in that position since Jāzeps Strods, who died at 107 years, 68 days old, and was the first person from Ogre to be considered the oldest living man in the country.
He is at least the 14th oldest man in Latvian history.
Unfortunately, I don't have the exact date of his death, but it seems to have been between 8 June 10, 2024
Does anyone know who the oldest man and person in Latvia is now? And the oldest man in the Baltic countries?
