Ms. Blažena Strachotová of South Bohemian Region (CZE) turns 108 y.o.
She was born on 9 February 1917.
She is the Doyenne of Czech Republic.
Blažena Strachotová, the oldest living person in Czech Republic, is celebrating her 108th birthday today in České Budějovice, according to Českobudějovický deník.
Strachotová was born Blažena Fibichová in Slavičín, Zlín Region, Austria-Hungary (now Czech Republic), on 9 February 1917. She was born into the family of landowner and baker Rudolf Fibich, whose baking trade had been passed down through generations. Her mother, Františka Fibichová, managed the household and assisted in the family bakery.
In the 1930s, Blažena trained as a meat and sausage saleswoman in Valašské Meziříčí. In 1939, she married Jaroslav Strachota, whose family owned a soda factory in Slavičín. Together, they ran the factory until 1950, when it was nationalized under dramatic circumstances.
Following this, she moved with her husband to Ostrava, where they both found work at the Ingstav company—he as a driver and she as a delivery worker. The couple had two sons, Jan and Jaroslav. She was widowed in 1977.
According to Českobudějovický deník, even at 108, she continues to live alone in her apartment in České Budějovice, with her only assistance being lunch delivered by workers from a nearby facility. However, she remains independent enough to prepare her own breakfast each morning. She remarked, “I’m not rushing to the retirement home.”
Strachotová has been the nation’s oldest living resident since the passing of 107-year-old Filomena Kolomazníková on 8 July 2024.
Happy Birthday!
