Italian Woman Barbara Isabella Quenda Turns 110

Barbara Isabella Quenda, a resident of Condove, Piedmont, Italy, is celebrating her 110th birthday today, according to ValsusaOggi.

Barbara Isabella Quenda was born in Almese, Piedmont, on 4 December 1915. She spent most of her life in Condove. She married Angelo Martoia, with whom she had a son Enrico in 1936. Her husband worked as a livestock dealer, while she ran a butcher shop—first in San Giorio and later in Condove, on Via Francesco Re. After retiring, she spent about twenty years on the Ligurian Riviera, remaining there until the age of 97 or 98, even after becoming a widow.

At 105, she was reported to be in excellent health and was cared for by her family. Although her eyesight had deteriorated somewhat, she still walked reasonably well. According to her family, she credited her longevity to garlic.
