112-Year-Old Else Tostmann, Germany’s Oldest Resident, Treated at Hospital

Else Tostmann, Germany’s oldest living person, was recently treated at a hospital in Peine, according to regionalHeute.de. A resident of Adenstedt, she was born on 20 October 1913 and, at 112, is the nation’s oldest known citizen. This marks her first known media appearance this year — she was not publicly reported on even at her 112th birthday in October.

Tostmann was born in Adenstedt, on 20 October 1913, where she was also baptized and confirmed. In 1939, she married Heinrich Tostmann. According to her, the most terrible experience of her life was a low-level attack over Adenstedt in 1944 during World War II, while she held her daughter Helga in her arms. Her husband never returned from the war. She initially worked in agriculture but later discovered her passion for cooking. According to her daughter, there was hardly a house in the village where she didn’t cook for parties during that time.

She currently has three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She is believed to have become the nation’s oldest living resident around June of this year, and is currently the last known person in Germany born in 1913.
