Mrs. Maria da Conceição de Brito celebrated her claimed 113th birthday today, and she appears to be in good health, not taking any medication and had never been ill throughout her life. Currently, she speaks little and is no longer fully lucid. Let's hope she continues like this for longer. Officially, she only celebrates her 113th birthday on 31 December, the date that she was registered.

It had been announced that the oldest living man in Portugal, Mr. Joaquim Varela, would be there at her birthday party, unfortunately it seems he was not there. However, another centenarian who lives in the same nursing home as Maria da Conceição was there, Mrs. Apresentação who is 105 years old.

Maria da Conceição de Brito, Portugal’s Oldest Person, Celebrates Her 113th Birthday

Maria da Conceição de Brito, the oldest living person in Portugal, celebrated her 113th birthday yesterday in São Brás de Alportel, Faro District. Her actual birthday is on 31 December, but since her claimed date of birth is 23 December, she is celebrating her birthday today.

Maria da Conceição de Brito was born in São Romão, Faro District, on 31 December 1912 (claims 22 December). She worked in the agriculture industry from a young age, picking carob, olives, and broad beans. She was married and had at least one son, Rogerio.

Living independently until she was 99, she was reported to be mentally very sharp as a centenarian by nursing home staff. She tripped and fell aged 106, but got straight back up and suffered no injury. At 107, she only used a walker and attended Mass monthly.

Following the death of Inácia Carmelino on 20 August 2023, she became Portugal’s oldest known resident.
