Marjorie Hodnett, a resident of Formby, Merseyside, England, is celebrating her 111th birthday today, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Hodnett was born in Harlesden, London, on 1 April 1914. After her father was called to serve in World War I, she, her mother, and her brother lived with relatives. She studied teacher training at Southlands College (1932–1934) and became a teacher at 20, educating thousands of children.
In 1939, she married Stanley Hodnett, who passed away in 1956. That same year, she married his brother, Haydn “Hugh” Hodnett, and moved to Sidbury, Devon, where she taught at All Saint’s Primary School. After being widowed a second time, she found comfort in her Methodist faith. She had no children but enjoyed country dancing and painting. Following the passing of John Tinniswood on 25 November 2024, she became the oldest known living person in Merseyside. She is currently the 9th-oldest living person in the United Kingdom.
