Happy Birthday, Ms. Winiarska! 🌻

When the young commander of the guard declared his love for her, she rejected him simply because his frivolity startled her. "See how simple he is," she told Amaranta. "He says that he’s dying because of me, as if I were a bad case of colic."

Anna Winiarska, Poland’s Oldest Resident, Turns 111

Anna Winiarska, the oldest known living person in Poland, is celebrating her 111th birthday today in Huta Gogołowska, Subcarpathian Voivodeship, according to KrosnoCity.pl.

Anna Winiarska was born in Huta Gogołowska, on 23 February 1915. She had four children (a daughter and three sons). During World War II, her family was displaced, and their home was destroyed by fire. Upon returning, they had to rebuild their lives from the ground up. She and her husband, Józef, supported themselves through farming. Her husband died in 1998, at the age of 87.

Her diet consisted of simple, natural foods that the family grew themselves. A devout woman throughout her life, she remained deeply connected to her faith, with a priest from the local parish visiting her monthly in her centenarian years.

Following the passing of 110-year-old Helena Michalik on 7 September 2024, she became the oldest known living person in Poland.
