Irène Laroche, a resident of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, Occitania, France, celebrated her 112th birthday on 23 March. Her birthday was first reported on Facebook by Pascale Bories, Mayor of Villeneuve-lez-Avignon.
Laroche was born in the village of Esparron-la-Bâtie (now part of Bayons) in the department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, France, on 23 March 1914.
In 1948, she got married in Avignon. She had a son, who later moved to Costa Rica. She worked as a telephone operator until she retired at the age of 60. Following the passing of her husband in 1981, she kept living at her home in Les Angles, up until she moved into a nursing home in Villeneuve-lez-Avignon in 2017.
At the moment, she is the second-oldest living person in the region of Occitania, after Marie-Louise Bresson, who turned 113 on 15 March.
Happy 112th Birthday!

Happy Birthday, Ms. Laroche! 🥀
When the young commander of the guard declared his love for her, she rejected him simply because his frivolity startled her. "See how simple he is," she told Amaranta. "He says that he’s dying because of me, as if I were a bad case of colic."
