Maria Mihai, the oldest known living person in Romania, will unfortunately not celebrate her 110th birthday next month as she died on 2 February 2022 at the age of 109 years, 28 days.
She was born on 5 January 1913 in Independenta, Calarasi County, Romania where she spent her entire life.
She became the oldest known living woman in Romania following the death of 107-year-old Barbara Massai on 24 September 2020. She became the oldest known living person in Romania, following the death of 108-year-old Ioan Lascau on 15 February 2021.

After her death, the new oldest known living woman in Romania is retired teacher Viorica Hogas, born on 9 February 1915 who lives in Suceava County. New oldest known living person in Romania is World War II veteran Ilie Ciocan, born on 28 May 1913 who lives in the Vâlcea County.
