This is quite devastating for me too... Leopold Vietoris is going to remain unmatched for a very long time now.

Rest in peace, Franz Wielander.

Very sad news. Ruhe in Frieden, Herr Franz Wielander (1914-2023). 😔

Interested in supercentenarians since 27 July 2018.
First supercentenarian I learned about: Kane Tanaka (1903-2022)

Very bitter. I knew that he has gone...

And I had plans to visit him and his family. Franz Wielander was the last man in Austria who was born before WW I. He was nearly three years old when Kaiser Franz Joseph I (1830-1916) died.

It seems that he died in his sleep.

This is the end of an era and a hard caesura.

May Herr Wielander Franz rest in eternal peace. Endless thanks and appreciation to him and his generation who constructed and built up our country with immeasurable diligence, decency and humility. A truly paragon for us, the younger.
