Ms. Herta Gontz - of Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany - sadly passed away German Newspaper 'Ruhr Nachrichten' now first reported.
The headline says that she died a few hours before her 110th birthday.
So Ms. Gontz died on 5 October 2024, aged 109 years and 365 days.
She was born on 6th October 1914 and was currently the 9th oldest known living German.

Her case reminds me a bit of Jane Ising, who was also German-born, except that Jane Ising's last year was not a leap year (would have been one had she been born and died one month later, though) and that Jane Ising was an emigrant, unlike this woman. Jane Ising died at age 110y,0d but would have likewise died at 109y,365d had her last year been a leap year.
