Mrs Elselyn Harriette Angelique (Es) Fa Si Oen died in Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, the Netherlands yesterday, on 14 February 2025, at the age of 109 years and 363 days. She was born in Nieuw-Amsterdam, Commewijne, Suriname (then part of the Netherlands) on 17 February 1915.

May she rest in peace.

AT5 maakte in 2023 onderstaande reportage over Tante Es.

Overduidelijk misschien.

May she RIP. 🙁

Out of curiosity: Had she lived to age 110 (an extra three days), what race would she have been validated as?

@futurist You are always making the same kind of unnecessary questions. And I think it's really obvious to know that this woman was a mix of races...

But that was exactly why he asked, since she was a mix of races, which race would she be included in?

@diego As simple as including her as mix. And if you want to be more specific, african-asian mix.

But I don't think is necessary to classify people into races. Primarily because the term "race" is too vague. What is a race? How many races are? This is not very clear... And it is very polemic. And Futurist tends to ask about races mos of the time. So why this importance to races?

I'm asking because LQ (and the GRG) classify people by race, as does the US Census. I don't know if LQ actually allows SCs to be listed as more than one race--does it?

Exactly, I also understood that as being the reason for the question, it is an interesting question indeed, but I believe that LQ, GRG and other research bodies would see how it is in the documentation, if there is this information there they would have an idea of how to classify Es Fa Si Oen.

I don't know if Suriname and/or the Netherlands actually officially classified people by race like the US does, though.

I don't have that information either.
