Mrs. Masa Matsumoto of Yokohama, Kanagawa pr. (JPN), sadly passed away on 9 July 2024 aged 114 years and 223 days.

She was born on 29 November 1909 in Kōnan-cho, Shiga pr., Japan.

She was the 3rd oldest validated living person in Japan and 7th oldest validated living person in the world.

She had been the oldest living person in Kanagawa Prefecture since 10 December 2022 following Ms. Kawasaki’s passing. On 10 January 2023, upon the death of 114-year-old Ms. Hamabe, she entered the top 10 oldest living people in Japan. On February 2023, after surpassing the final age of Ms. Kinase, she entered the top five oldest people ever in Kanagawa prefecture.

Rest in peace, Matsumoto-san (1909-2024).

Interested in supercentenarians since 27 July 2018.
First supercentenarian I learned about: Kane Tanaka (1903-2022)

She was the 24th oldest person in the history of Japan, the second oldest in history born in Shiga (the oldest living), the 4th oldest in history to die in Kanagawa. Nobu Kono born on March 28, 1911 in Omitama , Ibaraki Prefecture and living in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture is now the oldest person living in Kanagawa. She was 1 year and 212 days oldest in Kanagawa, this is less than her predecessor, Kimi Kawasaki, who ranked between fl 1 Jan 2021 and 10 Dec 2022 (fl 1 year, 329 days) but was the oldest to die in the region since Chiyo Miyako (117 years, 81 days) on 22 July 2018, who had been the last in Yokohama to be the oldest from Kanagawa,Masa was the 5th person from this city to be considered the oldest in Kanagawa. She is the 101 oldest validated person in history

RIP
