Ms. Tomiko Itooka of Ashiya, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan, sadly passed away at 9:30 pm on December 29th, 2024, from natural causes, at the age of 116 years and 220 days.
She was born in Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan on 23 May 1908.
On 12 December 2023, following the death of 116-year-old Fusa Tatsumi, she became the oldest living person in Japan, and the third-oldest living person in the world, behind María Branyas Morera (Spain) and Edie Ceccarelli (USA). Following Ceccarelli’s death on 22 February 2024, she became the world’s second-oldest living person.
Since 19 August 2024, she was the oldest living person in the world.

Just like with Kane Tanaka, her death wasn't reported until today, 6 days after her death.

She looked more tired in her later photos, but her death feels unexpected, I really thought she would live to be at least 117 years old.
Even she didn't make it to 2025, for 3 days.
Once again it is demonstrated that 117 years is also an extreme age.
116 years and 220 days is an incredible age.
Kane Tanaka (1903-2022) my favorite supercentenarian of all time.

Tomiko Itooka is the 20th oldest person in the world of all time, her successor, Inah is the 21st
She stayed 132 days as the oldest person in the world, the shortest time since Chiyo Miyako who stayed from 21 Apr 2018 - 22 July 2018 (92 days), her final age was 116 years, 220 days, the youngest dean to die since Jeralean Talley, who died at 116 years, 25 days on 17 June 2015, was the 14th (13th Japanese woman to be the oldest living woman in the world), Japanese person to be dean in the world, the first since Kane Tanaka who died on 19 Apr 2022, after Kane came two people before Tomiko
With the death of Tomiko, for the 2nd time Brazil will have the oldest person of one year of birth validated to die, the other was in 1905 with Antonia Santa Cruz (if no one else appears validated)
She was the oldest in Hyogo since 30 Apr 2022 (2 years, 243 days), the longest time since Hama Yasukawa who stayed 2 years, 344 days and died on 23 May 2021, she is the oldest in the history of Hyogo, surpassing an anonymous person who died at 115 years old 1 day on 30 Apr 2022, she is the 3rd person from Ashiya to be the dean of Hyogo, the last person was Yuriko Nishimura who died on 5 May 2015
She is the 6th oldest person in the history of Japan, her successor Okagi Hayashi occupies the 13th position. She remained Japan's oldest person for 1 year, 17 days, the shortest time since Chiyo Miyako who lived between 21 Apr 2018 and 22 July 2018 (92 days) and the youngest to die in that position since an anonymous Tokyo resident who died at 115 years, 196 days on 27 Sept 2015, and was the first person living in Hyogo to die as the country's oldest person.
