Mary Chesney, Missouri’s Oldest Resident, Dies at 112

Mary Chesney, the oldest person in the U.S. state of Missouri, passed away in Moberly on 5 May, at the age of 112 years, 275 days. Her passing was confirmed in a public obituary released by Cater Funeral Home.

Mary Chesney was born Mary Clark Manion in Randolph County, Missouri, on 3 August 1912. Her parents were James William Manion (1880–1974) and Gertrude Finnell (1877–1974). She had two older siblings.

The family lived on a farm in Clifton Hill. On 15 March 1933, she married Wallace Chesney. The couple had no children. They were married for 63 years, until her husband’s passing in April 1996. Over the years, she enjoyed playing cards and sewing. She drove until she was 102, and lived on her own until she was 104. She was a member of the Carpenter Street Baptist Church.

Following the death of 112-year-old Velma Hinds on 8 June 2023, she became the oldest known living person in Missouri.
