Ms. Rose Girone of Bellmore, Nassau County, New York, United States sadly passed away on 24 February 2025 at the age of 113 years and 42 days.

She was born on 13 January 1912 on Janów, Ukraine.

She was the oldest living Holocaust survivor and one of the oldest Jews in the world.

On 17 July 2023, following the death of 112-year-old Louise Levy, she became the oldest known living person in the U.S. state of New York.

She was the 5th documented OLP in the USA.

May she RIP. 🙁

Quite interesting that Jews tend to overperform among the oldest Polish-born people ever! Israel Kristal, Rose Girone, Maria Gerstman, Alexander Imich, et cetera. I wonder if there is something to Ashkenazi Jewish genetics that makes an increased lifespan for them more likely, including at extreme ages. (I'm 1/4 Ashkenazi Jewish myself, so this comment is NOT meant to be offensive AT ALL!)

She was born on 13 January 1912 on Janów, Ukraine.

I double-checked and apparently her place of birth is in present-day Ukraine, not Poland?

Though it was a part of Poland in the interwar era, in between the two World Wars. But she herself was born before the start of World War I, when it was still a part of Austria-Hungary (specifically Austria).

Sad news. Rest in peace, Rose Girone.

Just as it appears to be very hard for men from the USA to reach 111 in recent years, age 113 seems to be the final one for a lot of American women lately.

Just as it appears to be very hard for men from the USA to reach 111 in recent years,

Over the last 3.5 years, the US had Lawrence Brooks (112), Ezra Hill (111), Herbert Wolding (111), and Giles Cropsey (111).
