Severa Balcarce de Cruz, a resident of the village of La Almona in Jujuy Province, Argentina, passed away on 21 January, at the age of 110 years, 74 days. Her passing was first reported by El Tribuno Jujuy.
Severa Balcarce de Cruz was born in La Almona, on 8 November 1914. At the age of 19, she married Francisco Cruz, with whom she had 13 children (seven daughters and six sons).
Her granddaughter Violeta described her as a true “gaucho grandmother” who instilled their family traditions in them from an early age. On her 104th birthday, Balcarce shared that she was feeling well but could no longer walk and relied on a wheelchair to get around.
At the age of 108, she had 30 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
At the time of her passing, she was the oldest (documented) living person in Jujuy Province.
