Ms. Harue Baba (馬場ハルエ) of Saito City, Miyazaki Prefecture, has sadly passed away on around February 15, 2026 at the age of 111.
The exact date of death is not yet known and I will update as soon as it is announced.
She was born on March 20, 1914 in Nishimera Village, Miyazaki Prefecture. In September 2024, she was reported to be the second-oldest living person in Miyazaki Prefecture. On 7 November, following the passing of Ms. Yuriko Tsurumaru of Kobayashi City, she became the oldest living resident of Miyazaki Prefecture.
As of September 2025, she was not feeling well, so this is not unexpected news for me, but it is shocking.
Her sister, who was four years younger than her, lived in the same facility as her until she passed away at the age of 103.

Harue Baba, the Oldest Person in Miyazaki, Japan, Dies at 111
Harue Baba, the oldest living person in Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan, passed away in Saito on 16 February, at the age of 111 years, 333 days.
Harue Baba (馬場ハルエ) was born in Nishimera Village, Miyazaki Prefecture, on 20 March 1914, as the second of four siblings and the eldest daughter. She married in her 20s, and had two children. When she was around the age of 60, her husband passed away, and Baba lived alone until she was 99.
Baba never ate meat other than chicken and maintained a diet centered on home-grown vegetables, particularly pumpkins and taro. Thanks to this lifestyle, she avoided maor illnesses and chronic conditions throughout her life. At the age of 99 years and 10 months, she moved into a nursing home.
On 7 November 2024, following the passing of Yuriko Tsurumaru, she became the oldest living resident of Miyazaki Prefecture.
Following her passing, Miyazaki Prefecture reported their new oldest living resident is Ryō Maeda (前田良) of Miyakonojō, who was born on 24 March 1917, and is currently 108 years old.

Ms. Baba passed away on February 16, 2026, at the age of 111 years, 333 days.
Following Ms. Baba's passing, Ms. Ryō Maeda (前田良) (b. 1917.3.24) of Miyakonojō City, has become the new oldest living person of Miyazaki Prefecture.
