Ms. Haruko Tanaka of Tottori City, Tottori pr. (JPN) sadly passed away on 15 January 2026 at the age of 111 years, 314 days.

She was born in Kawahara Town (now part of Tottori City), Tottori pr. (JPN), on 7 March 1914.

On 3 March 2024, four days before her 110th birthday, she became the oldest living person in Tottori Prefecture, following the passing of Ms. Tomiko Osaki.

Haruko Tanaka, the Oldest Person in Tottori, Japan, Dies at 111

Haruko Tanaka (田中 春子), the oldest living person in Tottori Prefecture, Japan, passed away in Tottori City on 15 January, at the age of 111 years, 314 days.

Tanaka was born in Kawahara (now part of Tottori City), Tottori Prefecture, on 7 March 1914, as the youngest of three siblings. At the age of 21, she married and raised four children.

At the age of 110, it was reported that her favorite foods were canned mandarin oranges, watermelon, and chocolate, and that her hobby was writing haiku. Despite being hard of hearing, she was reportedly in good health and had a strong appetite, expressing gratitude to the staff on a daily basis.

On 3 March 2024, four days before her 110th birthday, she became the oldest living person in Tottori Prefecture, following the passing of Tomiko Osaki.

She is the 6th oldest person in Tottori's history.
She was the oldest person in Tottori for 1 year, 318 days, the longest since Asano Tako, who held the position from October 15, 2013 to November 4, 2015 (2 years, 20 days).
She died at 111 years, 314 days old, the oldest in that position since Natsuko Sakai, who died at 112 years, 56 days on August 7, 2021.
She is the 9th person from Tottori to be considered the oldest in the prefecture, the 3rd in a row.
She is the 294th oldest person in Japanese history.
She died at the same age as
