Ms. Maria Carmela Ricci of Novara, Piedmont Region, Italy, sadly passed away today morning 17 February 2026 at 113 years and 307 days in the hospital of Galliate, Novara, Piedmont Region, Italy.

(family has informed me few minutes ago)

She was born in San Bartolomeo in Galdo, Benevento, Campania Region on 16 April 1912.

On 14th November 2021, following the sad passing of Mr. Nobili, she became the oldest known living person in Piedmont Region.

On 10th February 2026, following the sad passing of Ms. Tessier, she became the World's 10th-oldest validated living person.

She was the 10th OLP in the World, 3rd OLP in Europe, Vice-Doyenne of Italy and OLP in Piedmont Region.

Italian team has always had several pictures of Nonna Maria Carmela but we were not allowed to post here them: family denied permission.

Ms Ricci was in great shape till 31 January 2026 when a very bad fall brought her to the hospital and to the death, after 17 days.

We have always been in touch with family every day but we were not allowed to share this info (I myself only rarely post here that she was alive...).

Now we can post one picture of her:

Riposi in pace Nonna Maria Carmela.

R.I.P. Ms. Ricci. Such sad news, especially after she'd reached the top 10 so recently. 😥

When the young commander of the guard declared his love for her, she rejected him simply because his frivolity startled her. "See how simple he is," she told Amaranta. "He says that he’s dying because of me, as if I were a bad case of colic."

She could walk without help, without a cane.... till 31 January 2026....and this was the reason of the bad fall 😭

Very sad news to hear - rest in peace Ms Ricci.

The nature of her passing reminds me of her fellow countrywoman Maria Redaelli.

In addition to the achievements noted by Ale and others …

Ms Ricci also holds a place in the all time Italian top 10.
