She was born in Arceburgo, but spent most of her childhood and youth in Mococa, in the interior of São Paulo. She later studied in Itú and Campinas, attending the Normal School on Praça Carlos Gomes. After graduating, she began her career as a teacher, working in schools across small towns and on rural farms throughout São Paulo. Her journey stretched from Arceburgo, Minas Gerais, to numerous cities across São Paulo.

It was in Mirassol that she met Orlando Monteiro (1911–1987). They married in 1946 and had three children together: Maria Cristina, Maria Lúcia, and Orlando Monteiro Junior. In the years that followed, she returned to teaching, eventually retiring from the José Inocêncio da Costa School Group in Matão.
