Spanish Woman Mercedes Ribera Sanz Dies at 111

Mercedes Ribera Sanz, a resident of Barcelona, Spain, passed away today, at the age of 111 years, 102 days.

Mercedes Ribera Sanz was born on 1 December 1914 in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, to parents Manuel Ribera González and Asunción Sanz Rams. When she was asked about her love life, she stated that she had a boyfriend when she was young, but emphasized that, marriage would have meant a loss of personal freedom. As a result, she never married nor had children.

She was a dance teacher. Even in her centenarian years, Ribera Sanz continued to dance, read books, and write. At the age of 104, she collaborated with Memorias Ediciones to write her biography, Tres Vidas, which told her story in the lens of three different girls named Bibi, Irene, and Tina.

R.I.P. Ms. Ribera Sanz.

When the young commander of the guard declared his love for her, she rejected him simply because his frivolity startled her. "See how simple he is," she told Amaranta. "He says that he’s dying because of me, as if I were a bad case of colic."
