Schwaninger Josef celebrated his 106th birthday February 05 2026 in Salzburg. He is in great shape!

https://www.tiktok.com/@fcredbullsalzburg/video/7604518889493417238

This man is incredibly fit, vital, agile. Look at his laughter, his jokes and his full hair. A player from his favorite team, Red Bull Salzburg, visited him for his 106th birthday. I suspect he doesn't need a cane, walker or wheelchair. Good luck!

@anonymus14 Truly amazing! Here's to hoping Mr. Schwaninger gets to celebrate many more joyous birthdays. 😊

(I've been learning German for a while now, glad that helped understand bits and pieces of what was said in the video too.)

@ MMNMADV91  Nice to hear that you are learning German. Unfortunately Mr. Schwaninger is speaking a local (strong) dialect. Nevertheless you understand something. Very good.

His joy is overwhelming and a pleasure to see.

@anonymus14 Thanks! Well, it is a difficult language, and I'm still at a level where not only can dialects and accents be an issue in terms of understanding what is being said, but my perception is still that of most native speakers talking far too quickly. Still, I seemed to get something about Mr. Schwaninger watching the team play in a future game soon, plus the visiting player telling him they'd brought the cake for him?

But of course, his enthusiasm is enough to transcend language barriers. 🙂

Maria Stockner from St. Radegund near Graz was born almost 108 years ago – the same year that the Republic of Austria was proclaimed. The Styrian now hears a bit badly, but she is still incredibly fit.

"She only hears what she wants to hear," smiles her daughter-in-law Christl, who has been caring for the 107-year-old at home since 2003. Until five years ago, the incredibly sprightly Mrs. Stockner still walked in the forest for hours every day with her walking sticks. That is no longer possible. But if she can stop herself, she can take a few steps in the yard. "She doesn't want to have a walker," says 76-year-old Christl. She apparently still feels too fit for that.

Maria Stockner was born June 8 1918, the same year that the Republic of Austria was proclaimed. Born into the misery during and after the First World War. From an early age, her everyday life was determined by great hardship and hunger. In order for the family with eight children to survive, everyone had to pitch in.

In Graz in the 1930s, Maria Stockner then became a nanny. Alone, she raised her three sons in addition to work. Only the middle one (82) is still alive, and her siblings are also dead. "Everyone else dies, except me," she often says. And she can't believe how long she's been in this world.
