I am pleasantly surprised that we once again have 13 SCs over 114 years old and that the 7 supercentenarians of the second half of 1909 have reached 114 years old.

Let's hope that good times are ahead for the supercentenarians, although we will have to see how they do in January 2024.

@mrcatlord I was researching and the last time we had 13 supercentenarians out of 114+ was on July 30, 2022 with the death of Sofía Rojas.

If everything remains the same until January 4 we will have 14 supercentenarians, being Seki Yoshida's 114th birthday.

 

If Kame Uema is verified, she would now have 14 supercentenarians out of 114+, but I don't think there is any more information on her.

Will Kame Uema be validated, at some point?

The decade 1900-1909 has already been reduced to its last 4 survivors, at this point the list is worse than 10 years ago.

The list could look the same as 10 years ago if the last survivors reach April 1, 2025 (on April 1, 2015 there were 4 survivors left from the 1890s with the death of Misao Okawa) 

And if the last survivors make it to April 7, 2025, the list could look relatively better than it did 10 years ago (with 3 survivors from the 1890s on April 7, 2015 with the death of Gertrude Weaver).

It's hard to believe there are only four left, when we had an entire dozen at the beginning of the year

All of these people who are now gone...

A sad reminder that annual survival rates at this age are somewhat less than 50%.

That said, even from a pure (historical) statistical perspective we have lost 1 or 2 more than we may have expected.

It’s also worth remembering that the last few from the 1890s performed incredibly well, including a period of over a year with no one passing.

We can’t realistically expect that very often, as each decade of birth years nears its end.
