I remember first becoming aware of supercentenarians back in 1997 (I was only 6 at the time), when my maternal grandmother showed me a newspaper article about the death of Jeanne Calment. I then had a brief period of interest during the early 2010s, which resurfaced in the 2020s, when, as mentioned above, I became a lurker in this forum and started following news about supercentenarians more closely. Perhaps not coincidentally (the two areas do end up having some overlap), actively starting genealogical research happened around the same time (circa late 2022).

Hoping to find my place as a member of this community, now that I've finally come out of "hiding"!

(By the way, if anyone's wondering, the letters in my username tie back into the genealogical research interest: MMN and MADV are the initials of two of my great-grandparents, the parents of the aforementioned grandmother.)

It was a complex process figuring out how to complete my registration, but here I am now! 😊

I have decided that I will stop following supercentenarians and thus will be leaving this forum. As I have mentioned before, this hobby has often caused me some stress, knowing that every time I open up this website there is a good chance yet another person I have grown an attachment to has passed away (you probably experience this too). I think the negative aspects of this likely outnumbers the positives for me right now. I don’t see myself doing this for several more years and I do want to enjoy my own life as much as I can. Obviously none of you here and of course none of the elders this forum is dedicated to are at fault here. I will thank you guys and also Tomiko, Inah, Ethel, Maria, Edie, Juan, Fusa, and all the rest.

I will be retiring my Canadian Centenarians list as the top post will become outdated. Also the top post in the “Most Recent Photos of Top OLPs” page too (someone can continue that on their own if they want in another post/thread). The “1900s Compared to 1890s” is made of individual posts so you guys can keep updating that. I will probably be active for another day or so before I post my last message.

I know I had an account here previously, but I decided recently to return. I'm happy to be back and seeing what's happening. It is nice to be able to see supercentenarian news from all corners of the niche.

My name is Georg Fürholzer. I´m 36 years of age and I live in Vienna (the captial of Austria).

I became inteerested longevity & supercentenarians in 2002.

Some of you do already know me from the 110 Club Forum & LongeviQuest (110 Club Chief-Admin & Community Relations Director LongeviQuest.) Ale 76 & me do already know us since 2010 and personally since 2013, when we vsisited the 113-year old Maria Gravigi de Candia & later the 114 year old Emma Morano together. Ale & me we vsited Mrs. Morano, who died at the age of 117 years, 137 days as then 4th oldest verified person ever and as the oldest italian person ever. We 2 visited her several times, but only 1 time together. My fourth and last visit of her took place in 2015 shortly after her 116th Birthday.

I got a message from LeonB on the other forum and decided to come see what this forum is like.

Wow I had to struggle a bit to post this, I hope if they let me post this topic lol.

I still don't get the hang of it to be able to post and respond in this thread and locate each topic, I'll get it with time :).

I think it's a good forum and I see many acquaintances.

I would like to start off by thanking the members of this forum for helping me better understand the statistics and science behind SCs. Years ago, I would hear about cases like Mbah Gotho, Dhaqabo Ebba, Sara & Janos Rovin, and a 140 year old woman who still climbed trees, and I would automatically believe these cases, because it is what I saw on YouTube and the Internet. (And Ripley's Believe It Or Not) Although it is disappointing that humans cannot live that long at the moment, I am grateful that the truth has been revealed to me. And this has certainly saved me lots of time trying to dig up documents about these outrageously old individuals. Yesterday I saw a story about a 321 year old man from Ghana, and I did not even question the possibility that it might be true. It was obviously false to me. 

I would also like to thank the members for their kind hearts and words and being very welcoming and patient with me and my lack of knowledge about certain things. It is an honor to be part of a club with you people. And I'm very happy I get to talk with such great people. You're all an inspiration to me😊. 

So, I am a Mexican-Estonian man, but live in America. I'm in my mid 20s. The "Aquanaut" part of my username comes from one of my favorite video games and my fascination with all things under the sea. The "Chalk" part of my username comes from my favorite writing tool that I use to create art! The first supercentenarian I read about was Salvatore Caruso when he was featured on National Geographic for his 108th birthday I believe. But in this last year I have really gotten into studying about SCs like never before! It is an amazing science to learn about. The combination of Caruso's story, along with my own great grandfather's has really sparked my interest in SCs, and I credit those two things to have gotten the boulder rolling.

Off the forum, I enjoy doing crafting and making miniature props. I will frequently create things that I can display around my house or give to family/friends, such as customized stepping stones, necklaces, and paintings. I also have a passion for going out and trying foods at restaurants I've never been to. I love Asian food, and want to try learning how to cook it someday. Another interest of mine in video games! Ever since I was a child, I have played many different video games on many different systems along with my dad. In the past year or so, I have been collecting PS1 Games because that is the first console I grew up with, and it's great to play my childhood favorites again, and other games from that era that I didn't get to experience. I enjoy talking about the world of video games, and if any of you are gamers, feel free to pm me, and I can give you my insta, and we can talk more about games. I currently have a PS1, PS2, PS5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, GameCube, Wii & Switch.
