Centenarian population data of Finland as of 31 December 2022 (Source)

Where did you get that table from? For me the site shows that there are still two living 1914-born women alive.

The statistics indicate that there are three new male centenarian immigrants that were added to the population census last year, them being a 1918-born man from Kotka and 1919-born men from Helsinki and Vantaa. They are originally from China, United States, and former Yugoslavia, however, I've been unable to figure out which one is which.

As for the possible "ghost cases" – as I previously explained on 110 Club, there have been some (not many) cases in the past years where a person keeps being reported as being alive while they actually passed away years ago. A great amount of these people were foreign citizens, e.g. the 1902-born woman (a Spanish citizen), last reported alive on 31.12.2010 at "108" & the 1906-born man (an Australian citizen), last reported alive on 31.12.2013 at "107". It is possible that these people were actually living abroad and the information about their death simply did not reach the Finnish authorities.

I have my own doubts regarding the 108- and 107-year-old men from Turku and Pyhtää. First of all, the 108-year-old male from Turku appears to be an American citizen (though Finnish-speaking and Finnish-born), which might be an indication of a case explained above. Secondly, The Social Insurance Institution of Finland (KELA) has a statistical database that publishes monthly information on pension recipients in Finland, and apparently there are no men over 100 years old in Pyhtää that are receiving pension of any kind. Of course, it is not impossible for an elderly person to not receive any kind of pension while residing in Finland, but I would say it is quite unusual, since this man is apparently a Finnish citizen. By examining the statistics by year, it seems very likely that this is the case for the 108-year-olds from Turku and Lohja as well. Time will tell whether these will turn out to be true cases or not.

Firstly, welcome to the GSF, Apoyta, we're very happy to have you here. Your expertise in Finnish extreme longevity has always been admired by the community.

Secondly, the table I included in the post was made by me in Excel, using the data on Statistic Finland's site. Since my data query exceeded 30 columns, I hastily calculated the female data using the total and male data, and that's probably where this mistake was made. I'm sorry for this.

 I have just discovered that the anonymous 1916-born woman from Jyväskylä passed away on 1 March 2024. Her name was Helvi Laakso, and she was born on 25 February 1916. This means that the 1916 cohort went extinct with the passing of Hertta Miettunen.
