Slightly different picture of Mrs. Hayashi meeting with this gentleman. I don't know who the gentleman is, but possibly a gerontology researcher? Anyway, I thought it was a cool picture as the other one just shows his hand on a poster that Mrs. Hayashi is holding.

Happy Birthday Mrs. Hayashi

Articles from 106-109 with lots of photos of Okagi Hayashi, who could still walk into her late centenarian years at least

Article from 106th birthday

Article from 107th birthday

Article from 108th birthday (with photos of her standing)

Article from 109th birthday (article says she can still walk with a cane)

Article from 110th birthday

According to these articles, Mrs. Hayashi is quite hard of hearing but still mentally sharp. Birthdays 111-113 did not have articles and photos like the previous birthdays because of the pandemic. Maybe another one will come out in the next few days (most of the previous articles took a few days)

And Gifu's oldest person ever is currently living (Okagi Hayashi). Are you going to visit the city where she lives?

@mrcatlord You made me realize a good point!. I had never thought about where she lives until now.

"Okagi" is a very rare name. I don't know of any other cases other than her. I believe this name comes from Ogaki City, the second largest city in Gifu Prefecture.

It was my first time actually riding the Tarumi Line, a railway line in Japan. Then I noticed that there are two names: Morera and Ogaki. Yes, Morera actually exists as Morera-Gifu Station, nearly Gifu prefecture's largest shopping mall. The railway which include the two station that is high-ranked supercentenarian's name.

This line is unique in that it ignores Gifu City, the largest city in Gifu Prefecture, and connects to Ogaki Station. Coincidentally, from Maria to Okagi (Ogaki), this seemed to imply that Okagi Hayashi would inherit the position currently held by Maria Brañas Morera.

@record_116 What is the meaning of Morera in japanese? Morera means mulberry in spanish.

I have seen other interesting coincidences between japanese and spanish. For instance, Miura/Mihura exists as a surname in Japan and in Spain. Quite surprising.

And there are two Ina(h)s from different parts of the world (Japan and Brazil) in the top ten

There is also Mina Kitagawa and Wilhelmine "Mina" Hehn (1913-2023) of Germany

@siam I'm happy to talk to you again. By the way, this station was established as the closest station to "Malera Gifu", the largest shopping mall in Gifu Prefecture.
Malera is a coined word, not a original Japanese word.

Source:

モレラ岐阜 - Wikipedia

モレラ岐阜公式HP | MALera (malera-gifu.com)

However, what is interesting is that the station uses the spelling morera. Literally the same as her.

Yeah I surprised that Spainsh use the surname Miura!. I know some Spanish words used in Japan. It is famous for its sweet called castella.

@mrcatlord Ina is イナ=稲、Although it may refer to a place name, in most cases this word means "rice,'' the main food of the Japanese people.

@record_116 Very interesting the castella sweet. I didn't know it. The name comes from Castile, the major region of Spain. This sweet was introduced by portuguese explorers in Japan hundreds of years ago.

Another interesting coincidence between Japan and Spain is that during Football World Cup 2022, when Spain lost to Japan, a japanese player was Morita, and a spanish one Morata. Their surnames are almost the same. It was very funny that both were playing the same match.

Yes, Okagi is a very rare name. I did a Google search for Okagi and an article on Okagi Hayashi was the first result. That shows how rare the name really is.
