She later retired from her position as a kitchen helper at Hamilton Elementary School.

Nearly 10 years ago, Oscar created this topic: https://the110club.com/last-men-born-in-190x-by-country-t17220-s30.html

The last man born before 1910, Juan Vicente Perez Mora, reached April 2024, which I believe is the furthest a decade's last survivor has gone into their 13th decade. Can a man born before 1920 reach 2034? Only time will tell.

As almost all men born before 1920 are now 106.5 or older, and several countries and territories have already lost their final 1910s born man, I have made a list inspired by Oscar's list from 2016. Please inform me of any additions/corrections, and also I will need help completing Latin America.

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The oldest known resident in Dutchess County celebrated her 112th birthday on Thursday. Bessie Marianne Riley was born on May 28, 1914.

She has lived through two world wars, four global flu pandemics, 20 U.S. presidents and more than a century of change in Poughkeepsie.

A lifelong resident, Riley was the fifth of eight children. She is not the first in her family to live over 10 decades, her sister lived to be 105.

As a child in the 1920s, attending segregated schools, Riley spent a lot of time in a one-room schoolhouse. She later worked as a dining room attendant at Hudson River Psychiatric Center for 17 years before retiring in 1975. She got married and had four children, two boys and two girls.

Deeply involved in her church community, Riley spent more time there than anywhere else. She served on the Missionary Circle and the Ladies Auxiliary, was a Sunday school superintendent and sang in the church choir for more than 50 years.

Today, her family continues to grow. She has seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandchild.

Throughout the duration of her life, she has avoided alcohol and smoking and has eaten many vegetables.

Riley’s family, friends and staff at the Lutheran Care Center, where she resides, celebrated her special day. The Lutheran Care Center nursing home team shared a statement with NEWS10, honoring her remarkable milestone:

Known for her gentle spirit and enduring presence, Bessie continues to inspire those around her with her remarkable longevity and life story.

Reaching 112 years old is an incredible achievement and a testament to a life well lived. Her birthday serves as a meaningful reminder of the importance of cherishing our elders and celebrating the experiences they share with us.

Antonia Figueroa’s Secret of Longevity, at 110 Years Old

9606

On 21 May, Dr. Manuel de la Peña, MD, PhD—President of the Instituto Europeo de la Salud y del Bienestar Social and a member of LongeviQuest—visited 110-year-old Antonia Figueroa at her home in San Agustín del Guadalix, Spain.

Antonia Figueroa was born in Jaén, Andalusia, Spain, on 8 December 1915. Her grandmother lived to the age of 104, and her brother, Juan Figueroa, is 100 years old as of May 2026. She had five children, including Fidel, aged 88, who lives in France, and her daughter Antonia, aged 83, who still lovingly cares for her mother.

At 106, she had a hip replacement, which had already been operated on when she fell around the age of 96. Following rehabilitation, she successfully regained her mobility.

9607

During the visit, Dr. Manuel de la Peña confirmed that she had always maintained a healthy lifestyle. She never smoked and does not drink alcohol, although she occasionally enjoys a glass of wine or brandy. She loves walking and dancing and keeps her mind active through crossword puzzles, word searches, and crafts such as crocheting, making purses, and creating bracelets.

Even at 110 years old, she said she sleeps very well because she practices half an hour of meditation and prayer before bed each night. She also spoke of her deep faith in God. She told the doctor that the secret to reaching 110 years of age in good health was maintaining a positive attitude, walking, singing, dancing, eating healthily, and, above all, having strong faith.

Dr. de la Peña presented her with a rosary blessed at the Vatican by Cardinal Angelo Acerbi. He also gifted her a copy of his bestselling book, Guía para vivir sanos 120 años (“Guide to Living Healthy for 120 Years”), which shares real-life stories drawn from clinical interviews conducted by the doctor himself.

After the very pleasant validation of Magdalena Oliver Gabarró by the LongeviQuest, a pattern of cases of exceptional longevity in the wider region of Catalonia and Mediterranean France becomes even more pronounced. Based on history/culture, we could perhaps also call this region "the Occitano-Catalan Area".

It is interesting that all 3 115+ cases in Spain come from Catalonia;

1) Maria Branyas Morera 117 years, 168 days (8th-oldest ever)
2) Ana Vela-Rubio 116 years, 47 days (29th-oldest ever)
3) Magdalena Oliver Gabarró 115 years, 182 days (48th-oldest ever)

Ana Vela-Rubio was born in Cordoba, but moved to Catalonia in 1950 at around ~49 years old.
Maria Branyas was also born in the USA, but she was the child of Catalan immigrants who had gone to the USA a year earlier and returned to Catalonia with her shortly, in 1915, that is, when Maria was only ~8 years old.

Despite making up only 16% of Spain's total population (8 millions out of 50 millions), Catalonia has all three of the country's historic 115+ supercentenarian cases

Just as an extra; Joan Riudavets Moll (114 years, 81 days) is the oldest man in Europe ever and was the oldest living man in the world when he died in 2004. He lived on the island of Menorca, which is culturally, linguistically, and historically, tied to Catalonia and geographically very close.

We also have the case of Jeanne Bot, who lived practically her entire life in French Catalonia (or Northern Catalonia), on the border with Spain.

So let's take a look at the 3 oldest French women (who are also the only 116+ cases in France);

1) Jeanne Calment 122 years, 164 days (1st-oldest ever)
2) Lucile Randon 118 years, 340 days (4th-oldest ever)
3) Jeanne Bot 116 years, 128 days (23rd-oldest ever)

Jeanne Calment and Lucile Randon were born in Arles and Alès‎‎ , which are only ~70 kilometers apart and are located near the Mediterranean Sea, while culturally and historically they are located in Occitanie (Alès‎‎ is located in the namesake administrative region too), which is adjacent to Catalonia. Calment lived her entire life in her hometown of Arles. Lucile Randon moved around France quite a bit during her life, but as a centenarian she retired to nearby Toulon, located on the Mediterranean coast.

Occitania (population of 6 millions) and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (population of 5 millions) as administrative regions have the only 3 116+ cases in a France of 69 millions. If we limit our interest only to the historical/cultural region of Occitania, the population is even smaller.

These observations about how many extremely long-lived outliers Catalonia and Occitania/Mediterranean France have produced are even more striking when you consider that France and Spain as a whole are two of the top countries internationally in life expectancy. So I would say that if there would be any confirmed "blue zones", this region is definitely a strong candidate.
