Forty years ago today, Mrs. P.M. (Marie) Ribbens-Verstallen celebrated her 110 birthday. She had been the doyenne of the Netherlands for just over two years, and even though I hadn't started 'collecting' Dutch centenarians, I knew about her - she was in the 'Groot Guinness Record Boek'. She was the fourth woman (and fifth person) in the Netherlands to have reached 110 back then.
I can't remember whether there were any references to her birthday on radio on that day itself; let alone on TV.
We/I had to wait until the next day; the newspaper my partents read, did indeed have an article on her 110th birthday (with picture and all)!

That was the first of my clippings. 🙂

And then to imagine that today her 110-year-old niece is still alive! 😀

Overduidelijk misschien.

That's astonishing. What's the name of the niece?

PS - @gjk_1966, if you happen to have newspaper clippings for Hannie Flower... she's one of the few Dutch supercentenarians we don't have any pictures/images for.

Overduidelijk misschien.

@marco She featured in (local) newspapers at 100, 101 & 102 (with pictures). After that, she never appeared in any paper again until she turned 109.

From then, there were short, 'text only' articles that appeared in every Dutch newspaper (as she was the oldest person in the Netherlands).

@GJK_1966 Thank you for this photo of Ann Flower (I never thought any photos of her existed). This leaves Grietje Jansen-Anker as the only Dutch SC that we don't have any pictures of (correct me if I'm wrong).

So what picture for Johanna Maria Besseling-Levers do you have? 🙃 The only picture for her that I have is from her naturalisation record, which was sent to me by a relative (and isn't in the public domain).

Overduidelijk misschien.

Oh, it wasn't meant in a bad way! Just sheer interest, I was thinking I must have missed a report. 😉

I know it wasn't, I just thought that it was stupid of me to forget about Mrs. Besseling-Levers (which is quite ironic as I admire Dutch SC's with an immigrant background).
