Two different supercentenarians met in two days, well done Ale.
And congratulation to both of you on spending time with the legendary Emma Morano, our last link with the 1800s.

Wow, you already met a supercentenarian 26 years ago! Would you happen to have pictures of this meeting?
Overduidelijk misschien.

Did the 1996 meeting start your interest in supercentenarians Ale?
Or were you involved before that?
@chrisr well, meeting "la signora Nora" and his brother Giovanni Battista "Bacci" (1899-2000, buried near my grannies) was a further inspiration (after my grandfather and his brothers).

@930310 I'm not sure I understand your comment here. SCs are quite rare, their privacy - especially in NL - is respected, and I myself would feel very uncomfortable contacting SCs' relatives (as a complete stranger to them) to ask if I could meet their (grand)parent. I don't know, it just feels... weird, I guess.
Overduidelijk misschien.
@marco of course privacy should be respected. Still, the opportunity to meet and interview someone who has accomplished a very succesful ageing is something I wouldn't want to miss.
Usually most relatives think it's great that someone wants to meet and/or talk with their grandparent.
Both perspectives have their place and merit I believe.
it tends to be up to the individual’s preferences.

I concur that meeting a supercentenarian is a wonderful occasion that one will cherish for a long time, but so far I have yet to meet relatives who are eager for "fans" to meet their relatives. 🙃

In Italy relatives usually invite us to meet their SC....the problem for us is the lack of money or time for the trip..

it’s funny how cultures can differ.
We’d really struggle to achieve that sort of invitation from most people or families here in Australia.

In the Netherlands, this would also be difficult. We don't quickly invite strangers (or people in general) over - let alone allow them to stay for dinner!
Overduidelijk misschien.
@marco when Waclaw Jan and I met Jadwiga Szubartowicz it was actually hard to leave. She treated us to dinner and we had to eat serving after serving. They showed us tremendous hospitality.
@930310 It really makes me wonder why Dutch culture is so different in that regard...
Overduidelijk misschien.
Japan is also culturally similar to the Netherlands in this regard. However, as a researcher, I would like to meet and interview Japanese SCs someday.
Ale’s meeting with Augusta Giontella on 3rd October will be an even more special memory now, given her passing just 19 days later.
@chrisr Thank you, dear friend, for your words.

She seemed decently strong in those photos from your meeting, so it was surprising to me that she passed away only a few weeks later. Do you know what her cause of death was?

@mendocino She passed away peacefully without suffering. In few hours she passed away as a candle when it goes out...
