I have some rather shocking news to share with you all today...
According to population statistics compiled on April 1, 2026, for Setagaya Ward, Tōkyō Prefecture, the oldest living person in ward is a 111-year-old woman (likely born in November 1914). This likely means that the an anoymous woman, who was the third oldest living person in Japan and the ninth oldest living person in the world (validated), became a "limbo case" at the age of 113. The last date she alive can be confirmed is March 1, 2026.
She was born on May 14, 1912.
For your information, there have been no reports of the death of the oldest person in Tokyo to date.

I recently came across this case. Dollie Jewell “Jewell” Clay (née Alvis) was born in Franklin County, Texas on December 3, 1906. She passed away in Winnsboro, Texas on November 18, 2016, just fifteen days shy of her 110th birthday. She was a fourth cousin of my great-grandmother. I have found several documents supporting her claimed age.

Marjorie Hodnett, a resident of Formby, Merseyside, England, is celebrating her 112th birthday today.

Hodnett was born in Harlesden, London, on 1 April 1914. After her father was called to serve in World War I, she, her mother, and her brother lived with relatives.

In 1939, she married Stanley Hodnett, who passed away in 1956. That same year, she married his brother, Haydn “Hugh” Hodnett, and moved to Sidbury, Devon, where she taught at All Saint’s Primary School. After being widowed a second time, she found comfort in her Methodist faith. She had no children but enjoyed country dancing and painting.

Following the passing of John Tinniswood on 25 November 2024, she became the oldest known living person in Merseyside. She is currently the 5th-oldest living person in the United Kingdom.

Marija Žekš, the oldest living person in Slovenia, passed away on 25 March, at the age of 109 years, 225 days, according to Lendavainfo.com. She passed away at a hospital in Murska Sobota.

Marija Žekš was born Marija Kovačič in the settlement of Drevenik, in northeastern Slovenia, on 12 August 1916. She spent her childhood with a foster mother in Maribor after losing both of her parents at an early age. There, she found employment in a textile factory.

In 1939, she married Alojz Žekš from Pečarovci, and during World War II they moved there together. They had two children, a daughter, Olga, and a son, Mirko. She worked at the local elementary school in Pečarovci as a cook and cleaner, while also assisting her husband, a tailor, with sewing.

After retiring in 1969, she and her husband moved to Beltinci in 1977 to live with their daughter. She remained active, hardworking, and deeply devoted to her family. Following her husband’s death in 1999, her health gradually declined, and in 2011 she moved to a nursing home.

Following the passing of 111-year-old Julijana Zakrajšek in 2024, she became the oldest living person in Slovenia.

Mr. Odd Borlaug, the oldest living man in Norway, has celebrated his 109th birthday today in Vik, Vestland County.

Mr. Borlaug was born and raised in the village of Feios in Vik Municipality, on 31 March 1917. He received little formal education and had to start working at a young age.

When World War II broke out, he was 23 years old and called to serve. Odd took part in the fighting in Valdres. On 9 April 1940, when Germany occupied Norway, he was stationed in Vetlefjorden, on the northern side of the Sognefjord. After World War II, he purchased a small farm, Bakkane, in his hometown of Feios. After the war, he married his wife, Ragna. His wife passed away in 2018. They had two children.

He enjoyed fishing throughout his life, even in old age. At 99, he went to buy new salmon fishing gear. When the total came to nearly 10,000 kroner (around 950 USD) for the rod, reel, and line, the salesperson at the sports store asked if he found it expensive. “No, not at all. An investment for the future,” he replied. In 2023, at the age of 106, some media outlets named him the world’s oldest living fisherman.

Following the passing of 109-year-old Vidar Eide, he became the oldest living man in Norway.
