Margarita de las Mercedes Flores is a Chilean supercentenarian whose age is currently under review by LongeviQuest.

Margarita de las Mercedes Flores was born in Santiago, Chile, on 6 June 1916.

She was always very sociable, healthy and had an active life, participating in workshops and community activities, which she only stopped attending during the pandemic, when she was 104 years old.

Even at 107, she used to make her bed, took walks, read, and enjoyed cooking. Sometimes, she washed the dishes. At that time, she said she longed to do more, like go to the gym, but her legs just wouldn’t let her anymore. She was reported to be very articulate.

When asked about her secret to a long life, she replied, “I don’t know. I’ve always felt well. I’ve always been busy, knitting around the house or doing other things. That keeps the mind active. And I think that’s what sustained me.”

She currently lives in La Reina, Santiago, Chile.

Rosa Laura Torres Barra, a resident of Tomé, Biobío Region, Chile, turns 112 today. She is the nation’s oldest known resident. She initially claimed to have been born on 11 January, but research has since confirmed that her actual birthdate was six months later. Today, her family has provided us with an update on her current status.

She was born in Tomé on 20 July 1913, as one of a set of twins to parents José Santos Torres Cabrera and Ernestina Barra Soto. Her twin, Rosa Ester, was born 30 minutes after her but died at a very young age.

She worked at Bellavista Oveja Tomé Factory, dedicated to the textile industry, for more than 40 years. She never married but had two children: Sonia and Héctor.

She is the 10th oldest person in the history of Chile, the 2nd oldest person born in Biobio in history and the 3rd oldest in history to die there. She is the 155th oldest person in the history of South America.

Ms. Berta Rufina Moya Rivera of Talcahuano, Bío Bío Region, Chile, sadly passed away on 4 May 2025, aged 111.

She was born in Lebu, Bío Bío Region, on 13 October 1913 (claimed 13 August). In 1928, she moved to Talcahuano because one of her sisters resided there. It was in Talcahuano that she met her future husband, a sailor, with whom she had three daughters.

She was the second-oldest known living person in Chile at the time of her passing.

Aída Pizarro Serrano, the oldest (documented) living person in Chile, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in Santiago on November 17, at the age of 112 years, 13 days.

Aída Pizarro Serrano was born in Pirque, Santiago Metropolitan Region, Chile, on 4 November 1912. Out of 14 children born to her parents, she was the last surviving sibling. Raised with a deep devotion to Catholicism, she enjoyed singing in the church choir with her father and sisters, where she learned Latin masses and hymns. As a young woman, she was a committed leader, serving as a catechist and president of the Catholic youth group at her church.

At some point, she married a young businessman, Leoncio, and they settled in Santiago, where they had four children. As of September 2024, she also had 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She always sought to be financially independent, and every summer she and her husband ran a successful watermelon and melon business at their home. A skilled cook, she prepared large quantities of food to share with others. In her later years, she participated in a local parish club, where she enjoyed socializing and engaging in various activities.

After Ms. Pizarro Serrano's death on 17 November 2024, the new Doyenne of Chile should be Ms. Rosa Laura Torres Barra (born on 20 July 1913, 111).

Talcahuano, Bío Bío Region — Berta Rufina Moya Rivera, one of the oldest living people in Chile, celebrated her 111th birthday on October 13th.

Moya Rivera was born in Lebu, Bío Bío Region, Chile, on 13 October 1913. Since she claims her birthday is on August 13, her 111th birthday was celebrated two months ago. However, her family confirmed her status to LongeviQuest today.

In 1928, she moved to Talcahuano because one of her sisters resided there. It was in Talcahuano that she met her future husband, a sailor, with whom she had three daughters.

Throughout her life, Moya Rivera dedicated herself entirely to her family. She had a keen interest in fashion and dressing well. She lived independently until she turned 100, after which she found it challenging to cook for herself. However, she remained reasonably independent until the age of 103.

Her secret to longevity includes drinking plenty of milk, avoiding parties, refraining from smoking, maintaining a healthy diet, and adhering to a regular sleep schedule. She is very religious and prays every night.
