Guyana’s Oldest Resident, Evadney Talbot, Dies at Claimed Age of 112

Evadney Eldica Talbot, a resident of Buxton, Demerara-Mahaica, Guyana, believed to be the nation’s oldest resident, passed away on 18 April. Her passing was first reported by the Guyana Times. If age claimed, she was 112 years and 343 days old at the time of her passing.

Evadney Talbot was born on 10 May 1912, to parents Johnathan Watson and Louisa Hammer. She attended Buxton Congregational School and, after completing her elementary education, honed her skills in sewing and dressmaking.

At some point, she married Kingsel Talbot, and together they had five children—two daughters and three sons. Even before her marriage, she earned recognition for her handmade embroidery and dressmaking. In the early years of married life, she joined her husband in working the backdam farmlands, planting sugarcane and ground provisions.

Kingsel Talbot passed away on 16 June 1985. After his passing, Evadney, with the support of her children, focused on providing for her family. She continued sewing, took on domestic tasks, and eventually started selling goods at the village market.

Her age has not yet been verified by LongeviQuest. As of May 2025, no supercentenarian from Guyana has been officially documented and validated by any organization specializing in age verification.

Zorie De Mattos, a resident of Georgetown, the capital city of Guyana, celebrated her claimed 110th birthday on 17 January, as reported by the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security.

Zorie De Mattos claims to have been born in the village of Hand-en-Veldt, near Mahaica, Guyana, on 17 January 1915.
