Mrs Joan Brennan of Auckland, New Zealand, has celebrated her 110th birthday. She was born in Barnet, England, UK, on 10 March 1912.
Happy belated birthday!
As a family member I can confirm that Joan is indeed alive and, although frail, is in good health. Her birth has been validated from copies of her birth and marriage certificates. Joan must be one of the very last people left in the world who can remember a soldier that was killed in World War I. She has a vivid memory of her father, Sergeant Henry William Lewis, coming home on leave for Christmas, 1916. He died of his wounds on the Somme, on 4th May 1917, aged 39. Some of the facts in a media report of her 105th birthday aren't quite right. She emigrated with her mother and elder sister, to Australia (and later to New Zealand) in November 1925 aged 13, and was married in 1937. She now lives in care at Selwyn Village retirement home in Auckland, New Zealand.
Overduidelijk misschien.
How nice the family was able to confirm his birthday!
Happy birthday Joan!
