Margaret Schaap, a resident of Sandhurst, Berkshire, England, turns 110 years old today. Her birthday party was celebrated a few days earlier, on 16 August.
At her birthday party, with a beaming smile on her face, Mrs. Schapp said: “It’s wonderful. Today we’re having lunch with music and I had one yesterday with the W.I (Women’s institute), so it’s all partying”.
Margaret was born a twin on 18 August 1915, during the reign of King George V. Throughout her life, she has witnessed five monarchs and 23 prime ministers. She has a passion for gardening and crafting, and played competitive tennis until her late eighties.
At 110, Margaret still lives independently in an annexe next door to her daughter. At her birthday party, her daughter said: “She’s always busy doing things. She helps at the church with the toddler groups. She does the painting table and woe-betide anyone else who wants to do the painting table!”
When asked the secret to her long life, Mrs. Schaap said: “Being interested in things and people and helping people to do things. I never sit still for very long!” Margaret ended her party with dancing and a birthday cake, the celebrations to continue today on her official 110th birthday.
According the Oldest in Britain website, Mrs. Schapp is the 13th oldest person in the United Kingdom.
Happy Birthday!
