Alice Hootman, Iowa’s Oldest Resident, Turns 110

Alice Hootman, a resident of Sigourney, Iowa, USA, celebrated her 110th birthday on 26 January, according to the Webster Iowa Reunion.

Alice Martha Hootman was born in Iowa on 26 January 1916, to parents Charles J. Black and Catherine (Collett) Black Lovedy. She married Arthur Clair Hootman (1907–1986), and they had three children: Donald, Carol, and Nancy.

Hootman was employed at the County Home and later at the Iowa Braille & Sight Saving School. In 1986, she and her husband moved to Webster, Iowa. Following her husband’s death later that year, she continued to reside in Webster before later relocating to Sigourney, Iowa.

On 26 February 2025, following the passing of Wilma Arnold, she became the oldest known living person in Iowa.
