Colombian Man Armando Alvarino Thomas Dies at 111

Armando Alvarino Thomas, a resident of Barrancabermeja, Santander Department, Colombia, passed away on 27 May, at the age of 111 years, 83 days.

Armando Alvarino Thomas was born on 5 March 1914 in Río Viejo in Bolívar Department of northern Colombia. In his late 30s, he moved to the municipality of Barrancabermeja. There, he spent much of his career working for the Tropical Oil Company, commonly known as “El Troco.” He married Zoraida Sarmiento, and together they had twelve children.

His younger sister, Emilia, died in 2023 at the age of 100. At 108, he could still walk with the aid of a walking frame and read without glasses. He became the first known male supercentenarian from the department of Santander.

At the time of his passing, he was the second-oldest known man in Colombia, after Julio Saldarriaga Hernandez.

May he rest in peace.
