Concepción Bravo Chávez, a resident of Mexico City, the nation’s second-oldest resident, passed away on 26 June, at the age of 112 years, 86 days.
Concepción Bravo Chávez was born in a corner of Uruapan, Michoacán, Mexico, on 1 April 1913, as the eighth of ten children to a single mother. She lost her parents to the 1918 pandemic when she was just four years old. Her uncle and aunt, Mateo and Vicenta, took her in and gave her a loving home. She grew up surrounded by her cousins—some also orphaned—sharing laughter and deep bonds with them.
At the age of 21, she married Juan López Orta. Together, they had seven daughters: María Emma, Estela, María Elena, María de Lourdes, María Martha, María Guadalupe, and the youngest, María del Rocío. The family tree branched out to 14 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
When asked about the secret to her longevity, she said: “natural diet”.
At the time of her passing, she was the nation’s second-oldest known resident, after Eulalia Bravo Bravo.
