RIP Ms. Larsen, Doyenne of Norway.

She sadly passed away in Ullensvang, Vestlandet (NOR), aged 111.
She was born on 12 November 1914 and she was the joint oldest living person in Norway.

It was very nice seeing her and Lina Anundsen celebrating their 110th and 111th birthdays simultaneously, and reaching the joint-5th place on the Norwegian all-time list side by side.

Margit Larsen, Norway’s Oldest Resident, Dies at 111

Margit Larsen, the oldest living person in Norway, passed away in Odda, Vestland County, on 27 December, at the age of 111 years, 45 days, according to VG.no. She held the title jointly with Lina Anundsen.

Larsen was born in the municipality of Hamre (present-day Åsane), Vestland County, Western Norway, on 12 November 1914, as the second of five siblings. She outlived all four of her siblings—one passed away in their 90s, while three lived to be over 100. She moved with her family to Odda when she was six years old.

Larsen worked for many years as a maid before marrying Erling Larsen in 1950. The following year, their daughter Ingebjørg was born, and she became a full-time housewife. In addition to her family duties, she was highly involved in politics with the Christian Democratic Party (KrF) and actively participated in scouting and volunteer work.

Besides her daughter, she is also survived by three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

On 27 February 2024, following the passing of Vidar Eide, she became the joint oldest living person in Norway. This was the first known instance in which Norway had two people jointly holding the title of the nation’s oldest resident because they were born on the same day. At the time of her passing, this was the only known case of its kind worldwide.

She was the 18th person from Vestlandet to be the oldest in the country, the second in a row.
