I'm sad to report that Árpádné Juhász (née Terézia Kopányi) – of Győrújbarát, Győr-Moson-Sopron County, Hungary – passed away on 22 January 2026, at the age of 111 years and 253 days. She was born on 14 May 1914, in Győr, Austria-Hungary (now Hungary).

Terézia was the oldest known living person in Hungary for more than three years, as well as the third-oldest known person ever in the country, behind Veronika Zsilinszki (1908-2021) and Erzsébet Istvánné Fejes (1911-2022).
She will be missed tremendously. May she rest in peace.

She is the oldest person born and who died in Hungary in history.
She remained the oldest person in Hungary for 3 years and 36 days, the longest time since Alajosné Duronelly, who held the title from February 22, 1970, to May 4, 1974 (4 years, 71 days).
She died at 111 years, 253 days old and is the youngest to die in that position since Jánosné Bélik, who died on November 4, 2018, at 111 years, 48 days old. Her three successors are the oldest people in history to die in Hungary, in descending order.
She is the 3rd person from Győr-Moson-Sopron (the oldest person in the history of this region) to be considered the oldest in Hungary, the first since Rezső Gallai (the oldest man in the history of this region), who died on September 25, 2014.
