Yukiko Honda, the Oldest Person in Okayama, Japan, Dies at 112

Yukiko Honda, the oldest living person in Okayama Prefecture, Japan, passed away in Okayama City on 19 February, at the age of 112 years, 341 days.

Yukiko Honda was born in the Tamana District of Kumamoto Prefecture, on 15 March 1913. Her ancestors belonged to samurai families that governed the region and were affluent landowners with extensive land holdings. Following her graduation from Kumamoto Prefectural Second High School, she enrolled in Meiji University’s Women’s Faculty. During her time in college, she focused on the study of law and successfully obtained a clerk’s license.

Around the age of 25, she married a man employed in the railroad industry, who was six years her senior. At the time, her husband was an amateur baseball player in the Kansai region and was well-known locally. The couple had four children, and there was a period when the family lived in Yonago City, Tottori Prefecture, and Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture, due to her husband’s job transfer.

On 16 November 2024, she became the oldest known living person in Okayama Prefecture, following the death of Masako Soga (age 111) of Ibara City.

R.I.P. Ms. Honda.

When the young commander of the guard declared his love for her, she rejected him simply because his frivolity startled her. "See how simple he is," she told Amaranta. "He says that he’s dying because of me, as if I were a bad case of colic."
