After the death of Tane Ikai, Jeanne Calment was the WOP by more than five years in age, compared to any other validate candidates.

I’ll have a look but I’m not sure if a WOP has exceeded everyone  else by 3 years plus, since that time.

Sarah Knauss at 119-97 was succeeded as WOP by Eva Morris at 114-52, hence SK also exceeded the age of any other known person by five years.

But this appears to be the first time since 1999 that a 3 year gap has occurred for the Worlds Oldest Person.

@chrisr the case of Ella Miller (6 Dec 1884 - 21 Nov 2000) was researched and submitted to the GRG about six years ago. She should edge out Mrs. Morris eventually.

Please do see my list of researched cases (plus Japanese) who likely held the title of WOP.

The biggest difference between the OLP and the OLP known (as far as I know) was between Delina Filkins (4 May 1815) and Katherine Plunket (22 Nov 1820), barely edging out Jeanne Calment (21 Feb 1875) and Marie-Louise Meilleur (29 Aug 1880).

All three year spans between the OLP and the 2OLP are:

1. Margaret Ann Neve (18 May 1792) and Karen Brodbaek (4 Apr 1797)
2. Samantha Nellis (5 Jan 1810) and Elisabeth Jensen (9 Jan 1813)
3. Delina Filkins (4 May 1815) and Katherine Plunket (22 Nov 1820)
4. Katherine Plunket (22 Nov 1820) and Eliza Roff (10 Jul 1824)
5. Jennie Howell (28 Feb 1845) and Catherine Waller (1 Dec 1848)
6. Mary Kelly (7 Jun 1851) and James King (15 Nov 1854)
7. Jeanne Calment (21 Feb 1875) and Marie-Louise Meilleur (29 Aug 1880)
8. Sarah Knauss (24 Sep 1880) and Ella Miller (6 Dec 1884)
9. Lucile Randon (11 Feb 1904) and Maria Branyas Morrera (1 Apr 1907)

What about Mathias Hansen Sæter (21 October 1848 - 7 January 1957)?

Many thanks 930310 and Sailor Haumea.

it is great to see these older cases which relate to similar examples of Sister Andre’s achievements today.

New photo of Sœur André this morning, a screenshot from a video from today, shared by David Tavella on Facebook.

Interested in supercentenarians since 27 July 2018.
First supercentenarian I learned about: Kane Tanaka (1903-2022)

A tough quarter year ahead, being most of the northern hemisphere winter.

But 118 has never claimed anyone in the past, so we hope that trend continues.

Following the death of 113-year-old Juliette Bilde on 13 December 2022, she became the last French person born before 1910.

She has outlived all known global candidates from 1904, 1905 and 1906.

Right now, all verified  European candidates (bar one) from 1904 to 1908 inclusive.

And all of her own nations candidates from 1904 to 1909 inclusive.

In the spirit of breathing some new life into this forum, let me point out the fact that Lucile has now passed the ages of 118⅚, (the perhaps somewhat trivial 118 ⁶/₇), 118⅞, and (perhaps also a bit trivial) 118 ⁸/₉,  and even, sometime today, the amazing age of 118⁹/₁₀ = 118.9!! Unbelievable, and very, very exciting to see her 120th year of life (since birth) approaching so fast!

Happy New Year Lucile! (And all others, of course)

As we know, no known person has ever passed away at the age of 118.

So for now Sister Andre has gone a long way to upholding that trend , albeit the sample size for the data remains quite minuscule and will inevitably change one day.

In the wider picture we can only hope that the early portion of 2023 is kinder to supercentenarians than 2022 was.

Today would’ve been Lucile Randon’s 119th birthday. Rest in peace.

Considering that the number of elements that exist in this world ends at 118, I get the impression that people who have lived over 118 years are more supernatural than other supercentenarians.

It's occurred to me that Mrs. Randon indeed did have a 119th birthday party back in February, only she had changed her address from "Earth" to the "Kingdom of Heaven". We miss you Mrs. Randon! May she continue to Rest in Peace for eternity in heaven. We will never ever forget what amazing things you accomplished during your 118 years on this planet, and for that we are thankful beyond words. 😇

That same logic would make Jeanne Calment 148 and Delina Filkins 208 this year.

@024tomi Not so seriously. I was just noticed that the number of elements is close to the age that is said to be the maximum human lifespan.

@chrisr I don't know if you were replying to my comment, but what I meant was that Mrs. Lucile Randon celebrated 118 birthdays here on Earth, but she celebrated her 119th birthday up in Heaven.

It's been over 6 months since you've been gone Mrs. Randon, but you will never be forgotten! You were an incredibly generous and humble woman and I want to continue to carry on your legacy as you were a great example to us all! We miss you very very much! I hope you're having lots of fun up there in heaven!😇 Someday when I cross that bridge to the other side, I am going to tell you thank you for being such an inspiration. May you continue to R.I.P.
