Maria Branyas Morera is now one day away from her 116th birthday.

For me it will be the first birthday of a supercentenarian since I registered in the forum.

I am glad that the first birthday is Maria Branyas Morera and she is 116 years old.

I agree that 116 is still a very special birthday and (health permitting) it will be great to have someone once again in the 116+ age group, with hopefully a second not too long afterwards.

in my own mind 117 is required for “legend” status in supercentenarians but 116 is still very special.

Personally I think that we have to consider which era a person is from. Filkins reaching 113 in 1928 is even more impressive than someone turning 117 in the 2020s.

The average minimum age of the WOP has been hovering at about 115.5+ for several years now.

I wish Mrs. Branyas Morera all the best and am hopeful that she will have a happy 116th birthday soon.

Also worth noting that in the circa 12 years I’ve been following supercentenarians the number of 116+ persons has gone from about 7, to now heading to 26.

So it’s genuinely much more common now.

Every year since 1896 has produced at least one validated person who reached their 116th birthday.

So it’s genuinely much more common now.

If I'm not mistaken, Filkins' record of 113 years and 214 days took 52 years to break.

Fannie Thomas broke the record in November 1980, she died in January 1981 at 113 years and 283 days.

But the difference is that at that time people were already reaching ages of 111, 112, even 113 years old.

Now with Jeanne Calment no other supercentenarian has reached even 120 years.

The one who was close was Kane Tanaka, she was 119 years and 107 days old.

Although I don't think she can be considered close to 120 years old, I say this because she barely reached 119 years and 3 months and she still had another 9 months to go before turning 120.

I like to congratulate supercentenarians when it's the day here.

So tomorrow I will congratulate María Branyas Morera.

But I have a question, what is the probability that María Branyas Morera was born when it was already March 5, 1907 in Spain?

Between San Francisco, California and Catalonia, Spain there is a difference of 9 hours.

So her birthday would be March 5th.

Today Ms. Branyas Morera ties the final age of Ms. Vela Rubio (116 years and 47 days) and she becomes the Oldest Spanish SC ever (living or dead in Spain). Congratulations!
