@dejan Since August 2020, actually.

There might not be a report ever again. The National Pension Insurance administration has stopped responding to my letters.

@024tomi If they don't want to answer your emails, it wouldn't hurt to contact them by phone in early 2023. I contacted the Central Registry Office in my country and was told that they do not have reliable data, because in their lists there are still people who died more than 30 years ago, but no one has reported his death and they are still listed as living persons, and actually they died 30-40 years ago.

Data from the pension insurance fund is probably somewhat more reliable than the central register of citizens, for example in the central register of citizens of Slovenia, the oldest living person is a man, born in January 1911, while Julijana Zskrajšek is currently the SEVENTH oldest living person in Slovenia, just behind five women born from January 1911 to October 1912 and one man born in January 1911 who is listed as the oldest living person in Slovenia as of 2019. Milena Vintar, one of Juliana Zskrajšek's great-nieces, checked out of personal interest, who claims that Juliana Zskrajšek is still not the oldest living person in Slovenia, because it is a man born in January 1911 and five women born before 30 October 1912 according to these according to the data, there are currently a total of 7 people born before 30 October 1912 in Slovenia, of which a man was born in January 1912. 1911 is the oldest living person. (7 people over 110 years, personally, I don't believe that is possible for Slovenia). I have saved copies of her response in a screenshot where she claims that Julijana Zskrajsek is NOT currently the oldest living person in Slovenia...

She stated that her great-aunt Julijana Zskrajsek feels humiliated when someone tells her that she is the oldest Slovenian woman, that is exactly why she checked whether she is really officially the oldest living person in Slovenia, but the answer was, currently the SEVENTH oldest living person person in Slovenia. She also said that she does not want to submit the documentation until the central register of citizens informs her that Juliana has become the oldest living person in Slovenia, for now it is still not according to the data from the central register of citizens which are not reliable for me and I think it is almost impossible in Slovenia lives man born in January 1911...

MOST LIKELY CASES OF GHOSTS.

Elizabeth "Betty" Lightfoot (née Vesprame) was born in Hungary on 22 February 1915 and moved to the US in 1921. She died on 19 December 2022 in Fort Thomas, Kentucky aged 107 years, 300 days.

https://www.dmefuneral.com/obituaries/Elizabeth-Betty-Lightfoot?obId=26713422

Is it possible to find out if she was born in present-day Hungary, or another part of the Austro-Hungarian empire?

@heatwave116 @930310 I was able to find out (using his death record mentioning his parents' names) that her father, originally called Ferenc Veszprémi, was born in Felpéc, Győr-Moson-Sopron County in 1872. However, I couldn't find a birth record for Betty (Erzsébet Veszéprémi) or her mother (Mária Markus, born in 1885). I'm not 100% sure Betty was born in Budapest, it might have been a "filler", having not known the name of the exact village.

It would be great to find more 107+ years old people born in present-day Hungary who died in the US. Besides Elizabeth Lightfoot, I can only think of Helen Obermayer (1879-1991), Julia Ribar (1888-1995), Elizabeth Stefan (1895-2008), Joe Madar (1905-2013) and Mary Ann Natly (1907-2014) off the top of my head. I reckon there have been 10-20 more in reality. I wonder what would be the easiest way to discover them.

However, the following is a pleasant surpise, as her last online mention was from her 100th birthday: Árpádné Juhász (née Terézia, surname not yet known to me) turned 108 back in May. She was born on 14 May 1914 in Győr, and currently lives in a care home in Győrújbarát.

108th birthday notice
100th birthday report

Árpádné Juhász confirmed alive as of today.

Exciting news:

Vilmosné Molnár (née Irén Hauser) (b. 7 February 1916 in Budapest) - of District XIV, Budapest - has turned 107.

Birthday report

She was previously unknown to me, and as it turns out from her birthday report, her husband, renowned medical doctor and university professor Dr. Vilmos Molnár (1 August 1903 - 9 November 2006) lived to the age of 103. Together, with a combined age of 210 years and 3 months, they've recently become the oldest known couple ever in Hungary, beating the former record of circa exactly 210 years by Miklós Angelus (9 September 1909 - 31 December 2016, 107 years and 113 days) and Miklósné Angelus (née Edit Vidor) (6 March 1913 - c. Nov-Dec 2015, c. 102 years and 8 months).

Biography of Dr. Vilmos Molnár

Interestingly, Vilmosné Molnár is not the oldest living person in Budapest whose spouse lived to be a centenarian, as the husband of Ágostonné Jobbágy (Ilona, maiden surname unknown to me) (b. 5 August 1915), Ágoston Jobbágy (4 September 1909 - c. Dec 2009) died at 100 years and 3 months!

You can look at death records, especially those from various US states, for people aged 107+ and see if any of them mention a birth place in Hungary or in any of the adjacent countries (if you're interested in Hungary's pre-1918 borders, not only in Hungary's post-1920 borders).

Luckily the National Pension Insurance administration has answered my latest e-mail. They actually sent me two tables (one had 1918 and earlier births in one category), the one you see below is the best way I could combine the two.

As of mid-December 2022:

  • Slightly less centenarians than about a year before (c. 920 in total, c. 150 males and c. 770 females)
  • It apepars our doyenne is still an unidentified 1910-born woman.
  • Istvánné Fejes (15 Feb 1911 - 17 Dec 2022) still appears in this data.
  • We have another unidentified supercentenarian, (likely) one woman born in 1912.
  • The 1913 cohort became extinct in 2022.
  • Assuming 1910, 1911, 1912 all have one person each (which is not 100%, but very likely), 1914 and 1915 together has 6 women.
  • The 1916 male cohort became extinct in 2022. Our doyen is an unidentified 1917-born man.

The fact that we have 0 living people from 1913 also means that 2023 is going to be the first year without a 110th birthday in Hungary since 2013 (given the unidentified 1910- and 1912-born cases are real ones)

This lady hasn't been reported yet in this thread, the reason being I couldn't find out her exact name and birth date until now.

After a successful contact with her daughter, I learned that her name is Mihályné Szemler (née Magdolna Kűhn). She was born on 18 September 1915 in Késmárk (now Kežmarok, Slovakia) and currently lives Budapest.

The oldest living couple in Hungary is László Papp (b. 30 May 1919) and Lászlóné Papp (née Margit Dankó) (b. 27 April 1923). Their combined age will soon exceed 204 years.

They first fell in love during their teenage years in the late 1930s, but then lost contact and didn't know about each other for six decades. After both of them lost their spouses, they re-established contact in 1996 and married the same year. They've been living happily on their own in Szarvas ever since.

Oh yes Tomi, we have a strong boxing tradition in this country, Ireland - almost half our Olympic medals have been won by boxers. So the most successful fighters from other nations are also quite famous in this country.

According to this recent article, there's a man living in the 14th district of Budapest who is "107 years old" (which can also mean he's in his 107th year). Since there were no longer any 1916-born men in the December statistics, it's likely that this man was born in the first half of 1917 and is currently 106 years old. The article says he's "in great mental shape".

Thanks to an online governmental service I've found, I was able to solve many limbo cases in the past days. Here're some of the important findings so far.

Women 108+:

Mária Höffner (b. 20 June 1905), last reported on her 110th birthday → died on 30 July 2016, aged 111 years, 40 days (first person ever to reach 111 in Hungary, currently 4th oldest known person ever)

Józsefné Nagy (b. 3 March 1906), obituary published on 5 November 2015 → died on 2 November 2015, aged 109 years, 244 days (but she was never the OLP due to Höffner's reign)

Jánosné Szentirmay (b. 4 November 1899), obituary published on 6 February 2009 → died on 30 January 2009, aged 109 years, 87 days (OLP at the time of her death)

Thanks to an online governmental service I've found, I was able to solve many limbo cases in the past days. Here're some of the important findings so far.

@diego The page is called "Client Gate" (Ügyfélkapu) and it can be used for thousands of administrative tasks (e.g. requesting a passport, reporting a death, etc.), but it's only available for those with valid Hungarian ID cards. The service of obtaining the place and date of death of a deceased person requires the full name, the birth name, the place and date of birth and the mother's maiden name of the deceased from the person requesting the data.

Thank you very much for the information, a website like this is very important, all countries could have it, they could open it to people from other countries too

@dejan His name is Mykola Derevlyanyk/Miklós Derevljanik. He was born in the town of Kaba, Austria-Hungary, presently located in Hajdú-Bihar County, Hungary.

He's been living in present-day Ukraine since 1921, although the territory (now Zakarpattia Oblast) changed countries many times (1921-1939: Czechoslovakia, 1939-1945: Hungary, 1945-1991: Soviet Union, 1991-: Ukraine).

Aged 105, I doubt he's the oldest living emigrant from Hungary, although he's currently one of the oldest living Hungarian-born men.

Happy belated birthday to him!

Mykola Derevlyanyk turns 106 today. He's the oldest known living man born in present-day Hungary, and the oldest of the 23 centenarian pensioners of Ukraine's Zakarpattia Oblast (source). He still lives alone, does the household chores and cooks for himself.

Happy 106th birthday to him! Boldog születésnapot!

Another previously unknown OLP:

Jánosné Kemény (née Róza Berki) (29 January 1889 – 18 November 1995), 106 years, 293 days.

It turns out the age of the OLP never dropped back to 105 in 1995, it's been constantly 106+ since September 1988 (and constantly 107+ since February 1997, 108+ since November 2009. It was constantly 109+ between April 2011 and December 2022, and 110+ between September 2017 and December 2022).

Jánosné Kemény (née Róza Berki) (29 January 1889 – 18 November 1995), 106 years, 293 days.

This means that Jánosné Kemény became OLP, following the death of 106-year-old Antalné Banga on 1 July 1995. However, who was her successor, probably Ilka Zolnai (3 Oct 1889 – fl.3 Oct 1995), or Gyuláné Greskovics (16 Dec 1889 – 25 Jan 1997). The date of death for Ilka Zolnai remains unknown, is it possible to find it on "Ügyfélkap".
