Maria José Garino (née Pantoja Leite) - of Buenos Aires, Argentina - turned 109 on 17 March 2023. She was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 17 March 1914 to parents José Pautaga Leite and Olga Brandão Pantoja. She married Henrique Garino in 1937. She has a PhD in chemistry, and is a classically trained pianist.
