María Teresa Madrid, a resident of Puerto Berrío, Antioquia Department, Colombia, is celebrating her 111th birthday today.
María Teresa Madrid was born on 18 April 1914, in San Rafael, in the Antioquia Department of Colombia.
Though she never married or had children of her own, she dedicated her life to teaching, working as a primary school teacher. Beyond the classroom, she also taught embroidery to young girls—a craft she continued to share until the age of 109. She played a significant role in the education of many of her nieces and nephews as well.
Throughout her life, she lived in various towns across Antioquia, including San Rafael, Girardota, Medellín, and Barbosa. An avid traveler, she visited countries such as India, the United States, and several across Europe. She was also a dance instructor and a member of a swimming league in Medellín. A lover of the arts, she painted well into her later years, continuing the hobby until she was 106.
Though she had no children, many of her siblings did—some with more than ten—resulting in a large extended family that, by her 110th birthday, spanned six generations.
Happy 111th Birthday!
