Servando Palacin Bernal, Second-Oldest Man in Spain, Turns 110

Servando Palacin Bernal, a resident of Madrid, Spain, celebrated his 110th birthday on 6 May, according to OkDiario.

Servando Palacin Bernal was born in Reinoso de Cerrato, Castile and León, on 6 May 1915. He was born in the countryside into a very poor family, unable to pursue an education and forced to work from a very young age to support himself. His father died during the Spanish flu pandemic, leaving him orphaned at the age of three. In his youth, he joined the military, but the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War sent him to the front lines. He was wounded in combat in Los Barrios de Luna, when a bullet pierced his arm.

At some point, he married Juana, and together they had two children, including Javier. Juana passed away in 2008 after several years of living with dementia. He remained by her side until the very end.

As an adult, since the age of 48, he experienced frequent asthma attacks, especially while his children were still young. With no effective treatments available at the time, he often struggled with sleepless nights. As a centenarian, he claimed to have made a full recovery. According to him, his healthy lifestyle, positive outlook, and devout Catholic faith—practiced daily—were the key pillars of his well-being.

He is currently the second-oldest (known) living man in Spain, after Luis Carrasco-Muñoz y Pérez de la Isla, a fellow resident of Madrid.
