Aileen Emily Kars, the oldest living person in New Zealand turns 113 today!
She was born on 12 September 1913, and is now the second person to reach the age of 113 in New Zealand history, after British-born Florence Finch (1893-2007)

Congratulations and happy birthday to Mrs Kars.
It is great to see another New Zealander on the list of those who have made 113.
Florence Finch reached the age of 113-109, so perhaps Mrs Kars can claim the all time national record, early in the new year.

Aileen Kars, New Zealand’s Oldest Resident, Turns 113
Aileen Kars, the oldest living person in New Zealand, is celebrating her 113th birthday today in Palmerston North, according to the New Zealand Herald.
Kars was born in on the farm Burnbrae in Tokomaru, Manawatū-Whanganui, New Zealand, on 12 September 1913. She helped her parents on the farm by milking cows and shearing sheep. She attended Tokomaru School. She married Leslie Kars. The two attended the same school, and their families used to gather to play cards. The couple had two sons, Russell and Graham. They lived on a farm, where they had cows and horses, and she balanced her busy farm duties with raising her children.
Her husband passed away in the 1990s, after 54 years of marriage. In 1993, she moved into a retirement community. She gave up driving at the age of 95.
On 29 July 2022, following the death of 110-year-old Joan Brennan, she became the oldest living person in New Zealand.

Mrs Kars lives in my old university town in New Zealand, hence it’s wonderful to read of this achievement.
Mrs Kars has now been New Zealand’s oldest person for more than four years.
She is also Oceania’s oldest person, a title usually held by an Australian woman.
But with Mrs Kars and Mr Weeks the majority group is not in the top 2 right now, which is very interesting for someone who has a strong affiliation with both countries.
