Ichi Kubota (久保田イチ), the oldest living resident of Iwate Prefecture, celebrated her 113th birthday on May 30, 2026.
Kubota currently resides at a nursing home in Miyako City, Iwate Prefecture. On the day before her birthday, she celebrated with her family and enjoyed spending time with them during a special gathering.
Kubota has been drinking the energy drink Lipovitan D since it was first introduced and continues to enjoy it every day at the age of 113. Today, the nursing home adds a thickening agent to her Lipovitan D to make it easier for her to drink. In addition, she enjoys various beverages, including strawberry milk and apple juice, depending on her mood.
Until she was affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake at the age of 97, Kubota regularly played gateball both in the morning and afternoon, with a lunch break in between, and spent time outdoors in the sunlight. She also remained active in her community and enjoyed traveling throughout the Tohoku region.
In an interview conducted on Respect for the Aged Day when she was 110 years old, Kubota said that sea urchin and Lipovitan D were the secrets to her longevity. Her family told LongeviQuest that during sea urchin harvesting season, she consumed approximately 1.5 kilograms of sea urchin each year over a three month period.
According to the nursing home, Kubota has not experienced any major health issues at the age of 113. She uses a wheelchair and spends her days in the nursing home’s common living area, where she spends time with other residents and enjoys visits from her family.
