When the young commander of the guard declared his love for her, she rejected him simply because his frivolity startled her. "See how simple he is," she told Amaranta. "He says that he’s dying because of me, as if I were a bad case of colic."

Jūzō Kōno, the Oldest Man in Ehime, Japan, Turns 110

Jūzō Kōno, the oldest living man in Ehime Prefecture, Japan, celebrated his 110th birthday in Yawatahama on 31 March. Local children visited his home to offer their congratulations. Even at 110 years old, he continues to enjoy a range of hobbies, including coloring, composing senryu, and watching sumo and baseball.

In his own words, although he fell ill around the New Year, he has regained his strength over the past three months. He added that the key to staying healthy is to eat well and sleep well.

Jūzō Kōno (Japanese: 河野重三) was born on 31 March 1916.

The title accidentally says "Kouno". It's meant to be "Kono".
